Well September kind of disappeared, didn't it?

But fall trundles on, which means knitting and new tv shows. Woo hoo! And today the temperature really dropped. Which means winter is coming. Less woo hoo. But in the mean time, I traditionally post a pic of my Thanksgiving pie, so here you go. I love holidays that are exclusively about food. Really cuts to the meat of the thing. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving!

And peaches are my favourite.

([livejournal.com profile] noblealice [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness I've saved some for you! Everyone else? Er... sorry. Um. Feast your eyes?)

Other than this I'm failing spectacularly at my LJ Comments Come-Back Tour. But it's been a busy summer! Lots of cottaging on the weekends, settling into the new job, looking for a place to live (sidenote: *head smash into wall*)... and of course my never ending tv-watching schedule. Leverage! Haven! And I just finished Game of Thrones last night (DRAGONSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!) AND am nearly all the way through Avatar the Last Airbender (SO GOOD YOU GUYS OMG I DON'T EVEN CARE EVERYONE SHOULD MAKE OUT AND KIDS' SHOW WHAT?). All in all, whew! It's amazing a gal can get anything done at all.

It's a dark rainy day and I am hiding out in the basement with fresh-baked cherry pie, a cup of delicious forever nuts from David's Tea and the whole first season of Twin Peaks

Highfiving the heck out of today's life choices.

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canuckleheads and anyone else who wants in on an extra holiday!

Although to be more accurate to myself, Happy post-Thanksgiving Delicious Leftovers Day. Which everyone knows is almost as good.
hjea: (lots-cara is so awesome it's a burden)
Look what I made for dessert!

Peach tart.

Yeah. How awesome am I? ;D

Also, I have an entry for the weirdest dreams contest. Seriously, it's and odd one. )

And don't ask me what I was tripping on last night because I have no idea.

ETA: Pie was scrumtastic. JSYK.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [livejournal.com profile] ohvienna!

(Canada Pie [a.k.a. strawberry] made to share the many joys of this day with the Scottish.)

Have a lovely day, all!
hjea: (misc-teatime)
I love strawberry season. So so much.

(Not actually the most successful cake I've ever made--sponge did not rise so much as... yeah actually, not rise. But still tasty.)
hjea: (pd-dandylion!five)
Introducing... MANGLED PIE!

Yup. I invented a pie. Okay well, adapted a pie. But it still counts. Back story + Recipe )

If anyone else tries this and adds further adaptations, let me know! :D
hjea: (misc-it's not conceited right?)
I baked my first loaf of bread!

No-knead bread from this recipe. And it was easier than pie! And soooooo good. I've probably already had too much. Dipping it in olive oil... Mmm mmm.

...I might have some more now.
hjea: (misc-rotflmao)
Really. She went into a crazy-driven baking frenzy yesterday.

Yeah. She baked all that yesterday.

Here, have a breakdown: )

Clearly, there is a conspiracy to make me fat. Come over and help me... resist?
hjea: (misc-maple leaf)
I'm a little late on this, but Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canadians! Everyone else, I hope you had a great weekend. Maybe even with pie. You never know. ;)

Anywho, I had a really nice night with the roommate and her family and friends, and now am full of turkey and pie and ice cream and wine and I think it's time for bed. :D

But I'll leave you with the (true story!) of Canadian Thanksgiving, as told by one of our hotter compatriots, one Robin Scherbatsky.

Lots of reasons, Barney. LOTS of reasons. ...But mainly hockey. *G*

Happy Holidays, everyone! &hearts
hjea: (pd-honey & death)
Happy Pushing Daisies Day everyone!

(One of these pies is for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] xtinethepirate, who is letting me come over tonight to watch the SEASON TWO PREMIERE!OMG because networks are stupid and CTV isn't showing it anymore and therefore my show is no longer bunny-ears friendly)

BUT, I hope those who're are going to watch it, either today or tomorrow, enjoy it! I know I will, though how could I not? Ned! Chuck! Olive! Emerson! DIGBY!

...I can't believe I've lasted since December. ;D
hjea: (misc-tea)

It's like a disease. Seriously, someone needs to stop me. Or at least, come over and eat lemon cupcakes. They're good.
hjea: (pd-anna friel smile)
I'm officially going to have to refer to this as "the summer I baked and cooked a lot."

But fresh summer peaches ftw! And I added honey to the crust this time. Scrum-diddly-umptious. That Charlotte Charles sure knows what she's talking about. *g*
hjea: (pd-dandylion!five)
In the same vein as "interesting things existing on my windowsill right now" (*pats Mr. Smith and Sarah Jane*)...

CUP-PIES FTW!!!!!!!!!!

My thought process, let me show you: )

And once again, I was left more proud of my baking then I probably have the right to be. ;)

So that's it! I'm probably going to go and Youtube the heck out of Ned and Chuck now. Have a great day!
hjea: (dw-scottish tardis)
Maybe I need a "baked goods I make that are awesome" tag.

No one has ever been so proud of a gingerbread cookie as I have of this one. Not even those people who made The Gingerbread Man in leiu of a child. And who does that anyway? Who thinks, "Hey, I don't have kids, but clearly this cookie would be a good replacement! Yum yum yum!"

ANYWAY. Also feel free to check out [livejournal.com profile] maidm's crazy adventure of the Rose and Doctor Cookies as they travel in Time and Space and meet many delicious friends in which my TARDIS is featured.

I love this kind of free time.
hjea: (PD-Olive 'hey there')
I'm ridiculously proud of myself and it really shouldn't be that big a deal, but I made apple pie this afternoon and it was my first time (hmm, that could be dirty if taken in an "American Pie" context. ;) Please don't flag me! *hides*) and I also made the crust from scratch and it worked out WELL!!!

And since I'm apparently on an LJ spree today, I felt it only fair to show picture:

YAY PIE. (Thank you, Pushing Daisies, for this delicious new fan!fad) So proud of it, I was almost afraid to eat it in case it didn't actually taste good and I couldn't be so proud anymore. But then I did eat it ('cause who would really just leave a hot apple pie?) and it was delicious and the roommate thought so too.

Hey, look! We got snow today! And it's still here:

Welcome winter. But Halifax? Please stay warmer than the rest of the country. That way, [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar will come visit, and I won't freeze my wimpy little toes off.

Robin Hood 2x09: Jonas Armstrong can propose to me in the forest any day. Even if he does compare me to his weapon. So much LOVE for this episode. I think I'll go watch certain bits of it again.
