As is hyperbole. ;)

But since it is 12/12/12 and the last time such a thing will happen in my lifetime (*gulps*)--and because I haven't posted in over two months--I thought today warranted a post. But basically my life has been chugging along as normal, with the standard mix of work-home-work-home-friends-family-obsessive watching of tv. So nothing too worthy of note on this historic day. Alas!

So instead how about some fic amnesty... Avengers style!

Of course I'm still into it )

Otherwise Christmas preparations are beginning. And for once I've managed to get a good number of presents ready early! WOO HOO, GO ME. Of course I expect I'll still be panicking over that last-minute gift on the 23rd, but at least I won't be panicking over ALL the gifts. Mostly I'm excited for some snow and decorating--a mid-week latke-making Hanukkah party with friends this week--lots of cookies, and of course, for all the Yuletide reveals to come to us. ;)

WHO ELSE IS HOPING FOR A BUTTLOAD OF LIZZIE BENNET DIARIES FIC THIS YEAR????

Well September kind of disappeared, didn't it?

But fall trundles on, which means knitting and new tv shows. Woo hoo! And today the temperature really dropped. Which means winter is coming. Less woo hoo. But in the mean time, I traditionally post a pic of my Thanksgiving pie, so here you go. I love holidays that are exclusively about food. Really cuts to the meat of the thing. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving!
hjea: (leverage-age of the geek)
Look at me, I'm a posting machine this month! (As compared to the last few months) Anyway, in light of being more positive, I did want to remind (myself mainly) that I do have a Dreamwidth account, and that most of my LJ posts are archived there as well. So feel free to add me if you haven't done so. I'll make a concerted effort to not only post more things, but also check DW a little more frequently than... once every 6 months. ;)

In other news. CHRISTMAS. THREE DAYS. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Oh I still need to get presents for people, this is crazy. Especially my poor mum, who is the hardest person to shop for. I've got a necklace and earring set for her already, but I kind of want to get her at least one thing more. Especially since my dad announced that he's not buying anyone presents this year. He can't really go out shopping because he cracked a vertebra last month and is in a brace (his posture is, however, now superb), and has yet to believe that you can *actually* buy things online. Oy gevalt. Parents, I tell you.

Anyway. To wrap this up, have a preview of my Top Ten Kisses of 2011 picspam that I am (slowly) working on, and will likely post some time before December 2012. A Dreamwidth/Livejournal exclusive, this! It's a secret from tumblr! What is not a secret from tumblr is how much these two faces are my favourite stupid faces.

Moral of this post: kissing is awesome.
hjea: (dw-huggy hugs)
Less than a month since my last post! See? I'm getting better.

(Well... no. But I think blind optimism still wins me some points for the Great LJ Come Back Tour 2011)

Anyway, I thought I'd try out the HOLIDAY LOVE MEME for the first time, since we could all use a little more love around the holidays. Myself included. ;) (MY THREAD IS HERE)

If you've done one too, please link me so we can all ~~anonymously~~ tell each other how much we love everyone and want to squish their faces. Just please don't hold my love of ~emphasis tildes~ against me. Or my propensity for face-squishing.

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canuckleheads and anyone else who wants in on an extra holiday!

Although to be more accurate to myself, Happy post-Thanksgiving Delicious Leftovers Day. Which everyone knows is almost as good.
hjea: (misc-maple leaf)

The sun is shining, and for the first time in four years, I get to go up to the cottage for this holiday. Have a happy Thanksgiving and a great weekend, everyone!

2009, eh? Well, since [livejournal.com profile] agent_rouka has assured me that no apocalypses (apocali?) are imminent, I'd say we're off to a good start. So HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Some resolutions: I never take these too too seriously, but I've just got two that are fairly important to me right now
1) Get into grad school (oh please oh please oh please oh please--my new strategy is to pray fervently and avoid all the paperwork--we'll see how it goes)
2) Write more fanfiction (which is sort of a fall back if the grad school thing doesn't quite pan out)

ALRIGHTY, HAVE A GREAT DAY, EVERYONE. PLAY IN THE SNOW OR THE SUN OR NURSE YOUR HANGOVER OR WHATEVER. &hearts &hearts &hearts
hjea: (Default)
Hope everyone is having a good Thursday, and that Santa was good to everyone who expected him, recession be damned. I'm posting from my new iPod Touch, Kermit II. It's been a wonderful if busy week, and I'm looking forward to relaxing with my books and music and family and awesome. So Merry Christmas again and love to all!
hjea: (misc-maple leaf)
Well first off, Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ninamazing! I hope you have a fabulous day, darling! (And ooh - if you see Passchendaele you'll have to tell me what you think.) *EPIC!BIRTHDAY GLOMPS*

Yesterday I was telling a friend that I've never been to a Remembrance Day ceremony because I always seem to end up being sick on November 11th. But yesterday I was feeling fine, and was really looking forward to going downtown to the cenotaph to watch the ceremony there. So of course today I woke up and cut for TMI about girly problems )

I watched the ceremony in Ottawa on the tv, as I always do, but it's a good one, so I can't really mind. I like the laying of the wreaths the most. It's always so interesting to see how many different countries and organizations are represented in Ottawa alone, and how diverse the sweep of people affected by war are. But the silver cross mother seems younger every year, and it's heartbreaking.

I'm feeling a lot better now, if completely wrung out. So I think I'll take a nap, and then try to finally get some work done. What a day.
hjea: (dr horrible-slipping)
Happy Halloween - I hope everyone had a fun night!

I certainly did. Dressed up as Penny from Dr. Horrible (with a "SPOILER ALERT" sign around my neck hiding the... spoilers), went to our English Department's Gothic Fiction party (with free pizza and wine, thank you university money well spent) and then went out with my friends Trick-or-Eating for the Feed Nova Scotia's food drive, which is a really awesome way to still get dressed up, go door to door but then feel good about yourself! And often still get candy! Though I honestly have to thank [livejournal.com profile] xtinethepirate for most of the candy procured because I get too embarrassed. The best part was when we set up my iPod speakers and listened to the Dr. Horrible soundtrack as we collected the food. BECAUSE WE ARE THAT AMAZING. :DDD

And then back to divide up candy, watch an episode of Supernatural, and then home! And now I'm ever so glad to be in my pj's, snuggled in my bed.

SO TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT! *G*

I'm a little late on this, but Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canadians! Everyone else, I hope you had a great weekend. Maybe even with pie. You never know. ;)

Anywho, I had a really nice night with the roommate and her family and friends, and now am full of turkey and pie and ice cream and wine and I think it's time for bed. :D

But I'll leave you with the (true story!) of Canadian Thanksgiving, as told by one of our hotter compatriots, one Robin Scherbatsky.

Lots of reasons, Barney. LOTS of reasons. ...But mainly hockey. *G*

Happy Holidays, everyone! &hearts
hjea: (pd-I love in-charge ned!)
Happy Labour Day, everyone! Hope you're enjoying the day off. Actually, is it Labour Day in the States? Maybe not. But have a happy one anyway if you're there.

I finally got to see The Fall last night, which I've been waiting for what seems like forever to see. TOTALLY WORTH IT. Certainly one of the most beautiful and visually stunning films I've ever seen, but what really blew me away in the end was, well, what everyone else seems to be talking about.

Ramblings about the awesomeness of Alexandria )

So I'm going to clamour for everyone going to see The Fall. I was *slightly* disappointed that Nurse Evelyn wasn't in it more, but that's mainly just because I love Justine Waddell. But I'll just watch Wives and Daughters again and be happy.

I also saw Brideshead Revisited recently, and that too was supremely, supremely awesome. The story, the costumes, the mood of it all. And Emma Thompson can do no wrong. I'm pretty positive.
hjea: (misc-maple leaf)
Come celebrate Canada's 141th anniversary of Confederation - wherever you are! It's a good time. :D

So first off, Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] inara223! I hope you're having as good a day as I am. And thank you to EVERYBODY who has sent me birthday wishes today. You're all fabulous, and making me all misty-eyed. <333

I've been out of the house and on the move since 10:00 this morning, and have got about an hour before I'm going out again to watch the fireworks downtown. I'll probably go into more detail and throw pictures at you later, but Halifax is a pretty awesome place to celebrate Canada Day - there's been SO much to do today! And thanks to my birthday karma, the sun has been out and beautiful all day, despite lots of warnings to the contrary. So those living in the HRM - you're welcome. ;)

Anyways, I think I might do something radical now like, sit down for ten minutes, or take a shower, but thank you again, everybody! It's really been a great day so far.
hjea: (dw-wibbly wobbly)
Happy New Year! I'm a little late on the uptake, but I seem to have been busy/disinclined to post in the last couple of days - squeezing the last few days of the holiday for their full enjoyment capacity (this involves a lot of sleeping-in and watching Bones DVDs with my Mum and sister), then flying back to Halifax tomorrow afternoon. AND THEN CLASSES START AFRESH ON MONDAY. NEW HISTORY COURSES. WITH BIG PAPERS. WOE. WHERE DID MY VACATION GO?

But I have had a pretty great last few days. I was up at my cottage over New Year's, visiting one of my best friend, who I hardly get to see anymore. And northern Ontario is beautiful at this time of the year. Snow everywhere. Snow, trees, lake. Beautiful. And then I got to revisit the ROM and while I have ISSUES with the new addition (it's ugly, doesn't look that well built, poor use of space, lighting is... weird) museums are my FAVOURITE things in the world. And I just kept telling myself that when I work there in the near to distant future (that's before I move on to run the British Museum, by the by) I will fix things. *nods*

Hmm... some other random assorted things:

Robin Hood spoilers )

And now I need some new BBC to fill in until Who starts! Maybe I'll have to give Torchwood another chance. Spike (and Martha!) will be there, so... We'll see.

BUT HO MAN, I MISS PUSHING DAISIES. Like a missing piece of my soul! Or something slightly less melodramatic. But really, how can they introduce Ned and Chuck into my life and then just take them away! NOT FAIR. PLEASE PAY THE WRITERS ALREADY. Though I did have the brilliant idea of having a PD party where everyone dons splendid dresses and heels á la Chuck (or Olive if that's more your bent) and bakes pies and eats the pies and goes out a-searching for Lee Pace. And then maybe we could drink something out of flutes to take the edge off our Strike pain. Best party ever?

That's about it for now, my lovely peoples. 2008 will have plenty more exciting things to post about, I'm sure. Though I might be writing history papers while it happens. ;)
hjea: (dw-wibbly wobbly)
Hey, hope everyone had a good Christmas, those who celebrate it, and a relaxing fun time all around. Yesterday was great, very low key and fun, with delicious food and lots of clothes (fuzzy sheep-skin slippers that look like grampa slippers except they are BRIGHT PINK and therefore WIN) and books for presents, which makes me VERY happy.

Anyway, REC! The first Christmas book I've now finished was great! Called Gods Behaving Badly which was a good bit of fun, all about the Greek Gods living in a dilapidated house in London, trying not to screw up the world too much. Most amusing was the part when Zeus, who is a senile old man who watches TV all day, was insisting that Doctor Who was a god, and enacting god-like violence against Apollo when he tried to disagree. Also, Aphrodite is a telephone sex operator. I love British humour.

And I watched Voyage of the Damned! I already said most of my thoughts at [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar and [livejournal.com profile] ninamazing's journals, but I really did enjoy it this year. It was fun and sweet and sad and felt very much like Doctor Who. But the new credit music weirded the heck out of me. Clearly, change + Doctor Who is also becoming an issue for me. BUT IT WAS ALL... DIFFERENT. WITH THE ELECTRIC GUITAR AND STUFF. Another thing I'll have to mull over.

And in more exciting BBC news, Shadow in the North is airing on Sunday! YAY BILLIE. I'm so looking forward to this one, even if it has been years since I read it and mostly I remember a lot of crying coming out of it, but still. J.J. Feild is also WAY up there in Hot Men I Am Currently Drooling Over (my heart went ka-THUMP from his first scene in Ruby in the Smoke and then there was Northanger Abbey and I was done) so I am all anticipation and GLEE. Not to mention the fact that Sally Lockhart is KICK-ASS, and smart and beautiful and everything a hero should be (that's for you, Nina ;)). And Billie Piper plays her. So... where is the downside?

The Beeb released a preview clip but I would really recommend you NOT watch it unless you've read the book. 'Cause could they have chosen a more spoilery moment? Well probably, but it's still rather extreme.

Lastly - I miss Robin Hood. It's been a week and a half. What am I going to do when it's over?

*goes to watch the proposal scene again*
hjea: (dw-ain't it great to be crazy)
Hey, you nerds fellow highly cool people. If anyone's interested, today is the official Pretend to Be a Time Traveller Day! Yeppers, today YOU TOO can be a Timelord and pin vegetables to your lapel if you so wish, or try pulling off a really wacky scarf (actually, in this weather it probably wouldn't get a second glance), or just wiggle your toes around in your chucks, snap on some glasses and generally feel smug and superior to everyone around you!

If you've got facebook, check out this page for a list of suggestions on how to act. And even if you have no intention of actually doing any of the things, it's still a hilarious read. Someone put a LOT of thought and effort into today.

For my part, I'll probably just put on my "The Angels Have the Phonebox" t-shirt (under my big puffy coat of course - it's cold out there!) and go to the market where I shall quietly catalogue all the strange things human get up to, and the significance of this time of the year on the consumerist-culture values. And then I'll get some bread and wine.

That actually sort of sounds like a cross between a Timelord and Temperance Brennan, but you know what? Works for me!
hjea: (PD-it's the gang!)
Happy Halloween, everybody! I hope you all had a great night. :D

ANYWHO, in nerdilicious doings that have very little to do with the ACTUAL celebration of Halloween, after many numerous rewatchings of yesterday's Pushing Daisies I decided to publish my love for this fantastically awesome show by going through the whole episode yet again and writing down each and every line that tickled my fancy. Like I'd need an excuse to watch Pushing Daisies. ;)

This is quite an... extensive list )
hjea: (farscape-exactly where you need to be)
You know what I love? Picspams. Specifically, Farscape picspams (because, have you seen the pretty that is this show??). Specifically - John and Aeryn picspams. Kissing. Smooching. Snogging, what have you. YEAH. So, check out this WONDERFULLY BEAUTIFUL picspam of teh John/Aeryn by [livejournal.com profile] aetenae. I think all the kissing made my heart explode. *g* Ben and Claudia locked lips a LOT!

I now need to rewatch some Farscape. :D

Also - Thanksgiving weekend! Yay! I had my first of two Thanksgiving dinners last night at a friends house - about 15+ students eating amazing food that we all made and drinking wine and having a good time. And I mean it about the wine. I came home sloshed, and very nearly made a drunk!post, so be thankful I saved the world from that. ;) Tomorrow we're going to dinner at my roommate's cousin's, and I'm making pumpkin pie for the first time (aiee!) but I'm really looking forward to it. We're planning on playing Harry Potter trivial pursuit so... *g*

And then on monday I should probably start doing work. Condsidering I have an essay coming up. On Plato and Aristotle, who I don't understand at all. So that should be fun. ;)

Anyway, have a happy holiday weekend everybody! I wish you the best family/friends fun time, good food, and much happy tryptophan-L induced drowsiness!

P.S. New Robin Hood starting tonight! Whee, I can't wait for the cheese!
hjea: (disney-rotflmao)
Happy Easter flist, those of you who celebrate it. And bunnies and chocolate to everyone, because I think the sharing of chocolate goes above and beyond religious persuasions. I think I could even name one or two people who would argue that chocolate is a religion unto itself. ;)

I hope y'all have been having a good weekend, regardless of the SNOW that has apparently decided to cover this whole country, thank you very much. Nothing too exciting happening here, classes are over, studying has kinda started (well... I've thought about it) and the rest has been interesting and time consuming. We had one party here thursday night, and then spent the next two nights recovering by watching movies. *g* Serenity friday night (whoo hoo! - it'd been too long since I've watched our beloved BDM) and then Moulin Rouge last night. With three other girls. Yes, there was bawling and heartbroken sighing and swooning. Well... maybe not swooning, but you get the idea. I prefer to watch Moulin Rouge the Willow way, and stop it before the end. (Those of you who know what I'm talking about: *nerd points*.)

And then this morning I went to church. Yep. It's funny how my mother can make me do things even when she's three provinces away. Cut for churchy Easter-like ramblings )

The sun came out when I was walking home, making the April snow (oy) suddenly quite pretty and appealing. And I just happened to have my camera with me. :D So now I will picspam you. Hee!

Halifax is so pretty! )

Anywho, that's about it from me. I should probably study for my Arthur exam on tuesday (I never did actually finish the 'mort' d'Arthur part of Le Morte Darthur) and then continue the job hunt. But it's more likely I'll just finish fiddling with a bunch of random icons I've been working on. I'll post 'em later. ;)

*munches chocolate*
hjea: (the mummy-evie is a nerd)
Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone!

Ooh, and my layout is already all green, so I've got a good head start. But what a fun holiday, eh? Doesn't matter if you're all Irish, half-Irish, kinda Irish, or you own a green shirt - today is a day for all to celebrate! Especially if one lives in a city where there are more pubs per capita than anywhere else in the country. *g* So I hope you all have a good time tonight (a good responsible time though) and have tons of fun with whatever you do. Movie, excessive amounts of drinking, nice game of scrabble... whatever. :D

On a completely different note, I watched the series finale of Stargate SG-1 the other day, and got more sad about its passing than I thought I would. I still don't think I'd go back and watch the non-Ben Browder, Claudia Black and Morena Baccarin seasons, but still... I found out that I kinda got attached. *sniffs* So then I watched/icon'd the Farscape episode, 'The Choice'. 'Cause, you know, series finales aren't sad enough.

This is the episode that, if you hadn't already, will make you abso-frickin-lutely fall in love with Claudia Black. She is amazing. PLEASE EVERYONE, WATCH FARSCAPE! )

Have a good night!

ETA: Ooh, and just for kicks (and because this post isn't random enough): John Barrowman fans, ahoy! Cap'n Jack singing Anything You Can Do! )
