fic meme

Well, in true minion form, [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar did it first and now...

Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most.

Advice Given Freely. Firefly, post-BDM, River and Mal.

Her smile grows wider and she lets out a bubbly giggle, something that he’s never heard from her before. “You’re a funny man, not bad at all.”

His face softens. “I’m a mean old captain.”

This was one of the earliest (posted) Firefly fics I wrote, and is still one of my favourites. I remember just how clearly Mal and River's voices came to me as I was writing this scene, and how easy it was for me to picture them having this conversation. I love the hints the end of the movie gave about the kind of friendship Mal and River were forging. Makes me wish I wrote River more often.

Loose Ends. Firefly, post-BDM, Inara, Sheydra and Mal.

“I suppose he doesn’t look like a pirate.”

Inara looked at Sheydra and shook her head.

“He’s a good man - he tries hard not to be, but he is.” Inara’s eyes lingered on the doorway. “And I’ll be happy on Serenity.”

This one made sense to me. And again, the characters practically wrote themselves. I like that Inara still doesn't know what's going to happen in the future - doesn't know what the repercussions of Miranda will be, doesn't know what will happen with her and Mal... But she's come to this point where she knows she can't run away from them (and him) anymore. And yeah, maybe she's scared -- but she's willing to try.

Lull. Robin Hood, post-2x07, Robin/Marian.

“Marian.” He was there in front of her, gentle voice, hands cupping her face, pushing her hair aside to place a chaste kiss against her forehead. When had he become that man? Even during their betrothal, before he had left, it was all wicked smiles and glances, quick quips and quicker lips that burned and confused her. When had this caring, cautious man taken his place? It must have happened without her noticing.

Obviously, I *loved* Robin and Marian's relationship, especially in the second season, when Robin seemed to be changing so much, and Marian just seemed to be starting to notice. It's that reason amongst many that now makes me so bitter. *grumbleBBCgrumble* BUT at the time I wrote this, Marian and Robin were physically together in the same space for the first time. And I wanted to know how her grief would hinder or help that closeness. Plus -- fun make out times in the forest. ;DDD

Creed Drabble. The Office, AU, Creed.

"Morning, Creed." Vanessa smiled at him pleasantly, albeit tiredly, from reception.

"Hey..." He scrutinized her, while stuffing a timbit into his mouth and four more into his pocket from the box on her desk. "...straight-haired one." He finally managed, licking icing sugar from his lips.

This one is pretty random, but I wrote this drabble for [livejournal.com profile] lily_268 who wanted to know what Creed got up to in his Canadian office (mentioned in a talking head). And I kind of love it to death. Creed's just so... weird. And amazing. I should really get an icon.

Changing the Weather. The Office, season 4, Jim/Pam.

Jim makes her a sun made out of a yellow sticky note, which is sweet, and she sticks it beside her monitor as a felt-tip-smile reminder of why she loves him. But then it starts to snow, and Michael comes out of his office crowing like an excited four-year-old about how he wishes it would snow everyday. The office glares at him and Pam slumps in her chair and imagines pushing Michael face-first into a snowbank.

This is probably the most I've poured my own feelings and perspectives into a character I'm writing, which is maybe why I connect with it, but I do think it does really fit with Pam in this case. The end of winter, which seems to always stretch on forever - promising a lot and delivering nothing - tends to drive me a little (lot) batty, and I think even having someone like Jim in your life can't totally make up for all those cold, dark days. But then spring comes and it suddenly does. The end of this fic always makes me happy.

Aww. I totally just re-read the Creed drabble and it is AWESOME. Maybe more than I remember?! But I can't believe I didn't squee about Vanessa/Matt, the Canadian Jim/Pam! How adorable!

Also, I want to make a note that I'm doing my past-self proud by owning a Creed icon finally!

I'M SO GLAD YOU STILL LIKE IT! Maybe I should write more about Vanessa and Matt. I'm sure their star-crossed Canadian pinings would be solid entertainment. ;)

CREED THOUGHTS ICON!!!
