guys, my tv is back!
What a week. So much tv. So much kleenex. Of course I blame Downton Abbey for setting me off at the beginning of the week last sunday, but there was very little I didn't get at least a little emotionally wrought over. Castle? Check. Raising Hope (she's so big now and adorrrrrrable)? Check. Parks and Recreation? Abso-check-o-rama. (LESLIE KNOPE FACE'S CRUMBLED AND THEN SO DID I) And then although I missed Friday's tv on the night, you can believe for sure that FEELINGS happened in a big way when I caught up.
OLIVIAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is nothing I wouldn't do in either universe to somehow be able to give that woman a hug. It's not just that fact that this Olivia lives in a world without Peter simply being there, but it's all the ways the world has changed and shifted around his absence. This Olivia is so much more brittle and isolated and angry--to the point that maybe I shouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did, but there you go. I want to know all the ways her timeline has shifted and changed in these last four years to make her so. I thought one of the most telling and compelling differences with this Olivia was the way in the way she spoke to Lincoln when they first met. One of Olivia's greatest strengths as an agent is the way she can connect and empathize with victims or witnesses--and yet here she was brusque, awkward, ineffectual at offering her condolences to Lincoln at the loss of his partner. Even her talk on the bench with the young girl was slightly more standoffish than she would normally be. It was subtle, but I loved that it was there, and omg, Anna Torv. You know. ALL the awards.
Also? Hair down. Swagger. Scowl. Be still my fangirl heart.
Other things:
- Astrid out in the field! I will most definitely own to squeeing in excitement when she stepped out of the car behind Olivia. Even if she is there much still in the capacity of her connection to Walter. She was fantastic.
- And Walter! Actually, I'm going to talk about Olivia again. Although I said I noticed how much more brittle she was, the flipside was how her interactions with Walter were so much more tender than we're used to seeing. I guess without Peter she and Astrid both have stepped into much more of the caregiving role towards the older man. The scene with the three of them after Walter came out of hiding in the tank was beautiful done and heart rending, all with Lincoln watching dumbstruck in the background.
- And Lincoln. <3 I thought Seth Gabel was amazing in this episode. Although we got a little of this universe's Agent Lee last season, it was still striking how different he is to the diffident, laughing Lincoln on the other side. Here he was very much cast in the role of Olivia in the pilot--angry, confused, heartbroken over the loss of his partner. All his scenes with Olivia were great. More please.
- I hope we get to see the other side and its changes soon. Although we didn't get too much Altliv (THAT OPENING SCENE THOUGH!) she definitely seemed more flippant than she was at the end of season three, and I can't wait to find out how Peter's absence has changed her life and world. I want to see what the Observers are going to do next with Peter's not-exactly-gone presence. Is it weird to find an Observer adorable? September clearly has a huge soft spot for out little team.
- BUT IN CONCLUSION. OLIVIA DUNHAM.
ALL MY TEARS. ALL THE HUGS.
And for my other awesome Friday shows, I LOVE YOU HAVEN. I won't say too much about it because I need to watch it again and absorb, but... EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED. Talk about everything coming together at once, there was delicious plottiness happening EVERYWHERE. Not to even mention... um... KISSING. Last week I told Audrey to shoot the rev (not thinking she would at all) and then she did. And then this episode, with Nathan standing, leaning into her with his sad face, clearly not thinking she would come back. And me going, "Oh Audrey. Just kiss him. Look at him. Kiss him." AND THEN GUESS WHAT? SHE DID.
Audrey Parker. Way to do what I say, girl. ;D
I hope that was as rambly and as inarticulate as I always am about my shows! And now I can just look forward to Downton setting me off on another week-long crying jag later. ISN'T TELEVISION THE BEST?

I confess that I squealed and clapped when I realized that Astrid was a field agent (also, she was mirroring Olivia's clothes, how cute..)..
And the way Olivia handled Walter's crisis, OMG. I thought she was going to call him dad, or something. The other Walter could recognize our Olivia from Altlivia from the way she would lose patience with him in the hospital in the Other Side, remember? This Walter is flipping out and this Olivia just talks to him to calm him down, she pats him to brig him back to reality, as it was something she did many, many times..
Also, what about her powers? Was she still Subject 13? If the circumstances of the first crossing over changed (Peter not being there anymore and all that..), it stands to reason that the Cortexiphan trial may have not taken place at all, or in a different way. She may not have any powers. *GASP!!*
Why is she so alone? What about her sister and niece? What if she doesn't have them anymore? *ANOTHER GASP!!*
I have many questions. I need answers. And somebody to hold my hand 'cause I don't think I can survive week after week of that lost look in Olivia's eyes OMG.
Of Altliv's swag instead, I think I could watch more of...Just sayin'..

There are so many questions about how this world is different. I mean, I think we can be pretty sure that Walter still went to the other side and started this whole thing, although his motives must have changed. But I suppose the Cortexiphan trials still may have gone on, especially since they were Bell's project first, along with his ZFT thing. And is Bell still alive? Where is Nina? Where's Charlie (on this side or the other?) How about Elizabeth Bishop?

Off to watch Fringe now. I was way too tired yesterday to handle the level of attention it deserves.

Come back when you've seen Fringe and we can discuss all things Anna Torv's Face and the things she does with it to kill us. ALSO DOWNTON ABBEY.

My brain cried the whole time I was watching Fringe because I just kept thinking, "My show is the best thing on tv."

Well I actually enjoy the soul-breaking pain of Mary and Matthew a lot? Like, I freaked out because he wasn't in the preview for next week enough so of course my mind leapt to "DYING IN A TRENCH SOMEWHERE OH MY DEAR BOY!" but otherwise I'm revelling in the pain. Nothing on tv has distressed me as much as those two in a long time (Fringe is still Queen of my FEELINGS but not for the same things) and I'm ok with that. Bring on the tears. :D
BUT FRINGE IS THE BEST THING ON TV STILL. BECAUSE IT HAS OLIVIA DUNHAM. TWO IN FACT. CASE CLOSED.

It's a bit overwhelming how amazing both Olivia's are. I just want our Olivia to get Peter back so she has someone to hug her.
