I'm a legend, you know? They call me the cautionary whale.
Oy gevalt. The first week back at classes should not be so stressful. I'm sure there's a rule somewhere. BUT, essay numero uno is now finito'd (pending me going for an edit at the Writing Centre, which is really a super sekrit excuse for
xtinethepirate and me to hang out - because CLEARLY we don't see each other enough) and now I feel free to geek my little geeky heart out.
First things first, I FINALLY saw Juno this saturday, after being pestered by family and friends alike, and indeed, as everyone says, it REALLY WAS THAT GOOD. Besides which, I wanted to see it ever since I saw the trailer in November, but could never quite sort out the time (nor funds) but now I have seen it and anyway, WIN WIN WIN. WIN. Cheese to my macaroni indeed.

I never realize how much I like being home, unless I've been somewhere really different for a while
And I'm sure everyone and their Juno-loving mother has seen Ellen Page's interview with David Letterman but I'm just going to add myself to the ranks of ADORATION. What a great interview! She comes across as so bright, and funny, and it's wonderful. And of course, I LOVE how much attention she gives to Halifax and Nova Scotia (DL: It's really remote, huh? ME: *facepalms*). But she got the year right for the Halifax Explosion! The history student in me was a little worried when she hemmed and hawed over not being sure, but it was 1917 and now I have no holds bar for Ellen Page admiration! (apparently she was at my Canadian Tire this summer) YAY FOR AWESOME MARITIMERS.
And now our Premier has made a Top Ten Reasons Why David Letterman Should Visit Nova Scotia. Pretty frelling great. I love it when politicians try to be funny and occasionally succeed. ("Top that, Mike Huckabee")
It's amazing the kind of things I'll get up to to waste time and procrastinate. Missing TV because of el strike-o (I'm not sure what's up with the fake Spanish in this post. Just go with it) not being one of them, but being hit by such strong Jim/Pam missage of all a sudden (The Office! It's been so looooooong!), that I needed to seek out every baby!fic ever written about them (Oh, More Than That, how useful you are). Or in an amazing bout of self-indulgence, skimming through the crossover, Lending a Hand, that
goldy_dollar and I wrote last year, trying to remember which bits Frances wrote, and which bits I did. General rule of thumb I found was that if it's awesome and Doctor-babbly then it's Frances, adjectivey and wordy = me. :) Old fic is fun. And at the low end of the scale, there's "lets watch my slippers dance in the mirror for half an hour while I actively avoid thinking about Sci-fi essays". It's a wonder I ever buckle down and actually get any school work done.
Anywho, me gusta the ficage, so would anyone be interested in ye olde drabble meme? Put a prompt in the comments and I'll write you a short story below. Basically any fandom you've seen me talk about is fair play, though be warned, Robin Hood prompts are likely to get FERVENT!DENIAL LAND treatment. I'm fairly certain the finale was just bad teenage angsty character death fic gone wrong, anyway. REAL canonical Robin Hood wouldn't kill off its leads.
YAY, DRABBLES.

Oh, and uh... keyword would be... "Of all the treasures in Nottingham, *this* is what you steal???"
:DD

"Of all the treasures in Nottingham, that's what you'd steal?"
Inara huffed against Mal's chest and abruptly withdrew her arm. "It's my choice, Mal. You asked me what I would steal. Besides, it's not like there's actually any monetary gain to be had - the point is to give it to the poor."
Mal wiggled under the covers to try and move closer to her again. She poked him with her big toe.
"Look, Inara, I didn't mean... it's just that sayin' you'd steal the outlaw's heart is stupid! Think of all the gold the Sheriff would have tucked away in that castle."
She propped herself up on an elbow and rolled her eyes. "I was being flirtatious, Mal. Clearly drawing on a parallel between you and Robin Hood?"
"Oh." Mal scratched an ear. "Wiles, is it?"
Inara rolled her eyes again, but Mal sensed the fondness creeping its way back in. "You're an obstuse man, Mal."
"Well..." Mal reached over and wound her back in to his arms. "Maybe you'd better teach me the in's and out's of this outlaw life. What would Marian do, and all that."
"Well first, I think Marian would kick Robin in his clueless pigu until he learned how to recognize a nice gesture."
Mal waggled his eyebrows. "I think he'd be willing."

Very nice darlin, I quite approve of your choice :oD And I think your 'object' to be stolen was brilliant! :D
Thank-you!!!

i. Marian hesitated the first time he lead her into the forest, her wide eyes staring straight up as the tall trees arched over the edge of the field.
"You're not scared are you?" Robin scoffed, new bow clutched tightly in one hand, as he buzzed with all sorts of new possibilities.
"No." She gulped. "But it could be dangerous, Robin. Criminals hide and wait for people they can rob."
"Well, I'll protect you." He reached around and squeezed her shoulders, a year in age and an inch in height over her giving him the smug air of condescension.
Marian threw his arm off with one quick toss and ran for the trees, not letting him see the blush that had risen out of no where when the warm skin of his arm brushed her neck.

The expression vanished, her eyes popping wide open, as he leaned across the gap and quick as anything pressed his lips to hers.
"What was that for?"
Robin's eyes trailed along the forest floor. "Dunno. Just thought I'd surprise you back." He picked up a stick and twirled it, eyes sneaking to the side to gauge her reaction.
"Oh." Marian pressed her fingers to her lips briefly. "I suppose it worked."
no subject
"Marian!" The hiss came from a hill above her path, and in a second he was scrambling down to meet her.
"Oh, you are still here." She twisted her lips, her feelings as conflicted as ever since his unexpected return.
"Yeah. Where else would I go?"
Marian opened her mouth to tell him exactly where, but he raised a hand to stop her, doubling over as he breathed hard. "Honestly Marian, I really don't have the energy to argue this with you now."
She rolled her eyes, but produced a roll from her robes, wincing as he devoured it greedily in front of her.
"Are you... you're all right?"
He looked at her and tried to grin. "Better, now that the dogs are off." He sucked the last crumbs from his fingers. "Not much food, but er... Much will soon fix that."
"Right, well. I should be..." She gestured over her shoulder. "My father worries."
"Wait, Marian. I could... let me walk you home. It's getting dark and I remember the way."
She'd never needed his protection, but the way the forest's fading light fell on him reminded her of older times. Maybe he felt the same way.
"Fine." She turned and began walking. "Just this once."

yay, drabbles, yay walks in the forest.
Oh the cuteness THANK YOU ^^

She was back at the castle now - back where she could do more good, he conceded - but he couldn't help but ache at the thought that they had had too brief a time to be together.
Marian, always Marian, pulling him down to rest between tree roots, her head pillowed on his chest, fingers nimbly dancing underclothes when they were sure of being out of earshot. The forest had been a friend to them then - gave them the breathing room to be themselves and flirt with the possibilities of the future.

Oh, uni. What a source of knowledge and SOUL-SUCKAGE you are.

So, Romantic Lit paper, y/y??? *snickers*
no subject
So we'll see about Romantic Lit. Though I never like making promises that entail me finishing a paper before it's due. Even if there is singing.
no subject
But the singing WAS fun. We could just pretend you have a paper and use it as an excuse to sing, non?

Sam and Dean. Why they avoid Canada. 1) scary politeness, 2) the French, 3) the cold...... and 4) oh yeah, crossing the border with guns. But mostly the scary politeness.
(come on, break in a new fandom. *peer pressures you*)

I'ma going to watch Rodney MacDonald play the fiddle again.

But it would be cool if they came to Canada. Just saying.

This bears thinking, but I shall soon get back to you on it. Promise! :)

I've tried writing a sequel, sort of! All I've got so far is that the TARDIS has finally decided she needs a vacation and has plunked the Doctor down in Serenity's cargo hold, much to EVERYONE'S annoyance. And then that's where it stops. WAH.
I read about the Top Ten list in the paper a couple of days ago! It was so CUTE! *pinches your little Nova Scotian cheeks* MY Premier is busy asking the Prime Minister for more money for the foresting industry (SHOCK), and the Premier of Newfoundland is, like, throwing a temper tantrum or something. God, I love Canadian politics. <3
Put a prompt in the comments and I'll write you a short story below.
Nine/Rose/Ten (Or Nine, Rose, Ten *G*). "HOW long 'till this whole time loop gets sorted out, again?"

I feel like Office fic, something about Angela maybe?

"I am starting to do a little better - small steps, obviously - but I think Sprinkles would want me to be happy. I'm sure she wanted me to happy with her but... well."
"We did have a set-back this weekend. I was at the Lackawana County Cat Show - not with any of the others, but to spread around Sprinkles' memory. She is greatly missed in the community, you know. Well someone - who will remain nameless - volunteered to feed Whiskers and Ash and the others while I was away. But when I came home, the poor things were wild with hunger! They'd ripped through the whole house trying to find food! I think Marmalade was this far away from fainting."
"No, he put something out. Milk. Just milk!"
"That's a common misconception, they certainly LIKE milk, but they need more than a saucer of it to survive."
"My house doesn't have mice."
"Yes, well. Needless to say that's the last time I'll leave them to anything less than professional care. I've learned my lesson - twice. Though say what you will for... other people who will remain nameless. At least they know animals need food."
"...You have broccoli between your teeth."

Anyway: so with you on the Jim/Pam missage. Have you seen
Also AAAH, AAAAH, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ELLEN PAGE LINK. I FUCKING ADOOOOORE HER.
:DDDD Juno made me so fucking, fucking happy. I was like, "whatever happens in my life now, it's going to be okay, because I have Juno."
no subject
Oooh, fic! It is probably SO much better than the alternative baby fic which gives me my adorable Jim/Pam but also more often than not KILLS ME WITH THE BAD.
"whatever happens in my life now, it's going to be okay, because I have Juno."
YES. I think I've seen it about four times since, and just yes. It's so clever and sweet, but not saccharine, and Juno is WONDERFUL. I also think Halifax is getting a little smug via this from the talent its now exporting thanks to her - just ask our Premier!
