what can you do with a BA in English?

HA! My mum just linked me to this article in today's Globe and Mail. While nothing new, it's good to know that the uselessness of my future degree is still a hot topic. Best part? The ideal job posting:

"Wanted: a well-read deep thinker with working knowledge of the Cultural Revolution and the Romantic poets. Must be able to identify themes, put literary works into historical context and deconstruct allegorical novels. Ability to formulate theories about past events that have little or no impact on modern life also an asset."

So as I told my mum: best get ready for my Romantic Poetry class. And yes, that's really where I'm going. ;)

Heh. Thanks for sharing! *g* My father is the same way, though slightly more encouraging by digging up the most obscure jobs for art historians. "Art history private inverstigators!" Parents are so cute about their children heading into certain doom... *G*

Yes, my parents make cracks about me never being able to get into the housing market unless I kill them off. Then they look worried when I give them speculative looks. ;)

It's so good to know they care. *G*

It's not your fault if they plant all these suggestions in your head!!!

And who wants to be in the housing market, anyway? All it says in the news these days about real estate sounds scary and complicated.

*whistley-whistle*

So, how's that Romantic Poetry going? :)

Pah - exactly! I think paying out rental fees for the rest of my life sounds just fine and dandy. It makes travel plans more flexible anyways. ;)

*joins in the completely innocent whistling*

Romantic poetry was good times. Talking about Byron cutting a swath through the boudoirs of Europe - and then my prof made a crack about women coming into any room Byron was in and... er... coming. Jaws dropped. She's pretty awesome.
