Yes. I'm still talking about it.
I've been amusing myself over at the TWOP forums reading about this episode. And all of the discussion seems pretty much centred around:
1) "SO MANY DAMN LACES!" vs. "NO, IT'S SEXY!"
2) "PFFT, FAN SERVICE!" vs. "ONE HELL OF AN AWESOME FAN SERVICE!"
3) "THEY HAD SEX!" vs. "NO, THEY DIDN'T GET THAT FAR!" vs. "NO, THEY TOTALLY DID IT!"
Leading to...
4) "SO THE CONFESSOR THING HAPPENING DURING SEX, IS THAT JUST AN ORGASM THING? 'CAUSE THEY COULD GET AROUND THAT PRETTY EASILY."
All in all, I'm clearly not the only one obsessing about this. ;D
But I'll try to legitimize this fan!voyeurism just a teeny bit with some speculation. I'm not convinced the episode ever made clear that ye olde Seeker, Kieran, was confessed when he slept with the Confessor. Obviously the wizard, and even Vivian thought he was, and it's quite plausible that his devotion to her, and his distraction toward his mission, grew after he slept with her. But the wizard seemed to chalk up Kieran's grief and rage after Vivian's death to a kind of über-confession, as opposed to the grief and anger of simply having his love die in front of him, caused by rather horrible manipulations on the part of his supposed friend. (And then the stupid wizard is so SHOCKED AND DISMAYED that Kieran goes mad after he's handed his sword THAT FEEDS ON RAGE. Well duh.) I have some Wikipedia information about Richard and Kahlan from the book, so I can guess the implications the show could be giving us here, but I'm more curious about the choice of sex as the medium for this kind of confession itself. Obviously the show is building its mythology on what's been already set out in Terry Goodkind's novels, and there are some Issues therein about how sexuality is portrayed. But if a Confessor only loses control during a moment of pleasure, well, you know, how much pleasure are we talking here? Because as the forum was getting into, that doesn't necessarily bar Richard and Kahlan from still having a lot of fun. In a lot of ways, it seems like a rather outdated acclamation of abstinence and virginity--Richard and Kahlan can't be together at all, full stop, because that would be Wrong, or impure, or what have you. Which is fairly annoying when you've got two people who love each other and want to be with each other, and could probably engage in a number of sexual acts without any soul-losing consequences. And yes, this is a tv show, and they can't really get into detail like that, and besides, they need ways to keep the tension going and stretch out the UST. I suppose I'm just wondering if there's any way we can move beyond these rather stunted approaches to sexuality anytime soon. But I have a feeling, as I said before, that that's probably the most nookie those two are going to get for a LOOOOOONG time.

skimmedread the books, and I guess I have to give credit to Goodkind for potraying Kahlan with honest-to-goodness female sexual desire (both in general and specifically about Richard, obvs) and there wasn't any moral judgment on it. She's never, like, conquered by his love for her, she just wants him that bad lol. (And then broods about it.)no subject
And that's a fair point about Kahlan--I'm really not a fan of Terry Goodkind's writing from what little I've read, but I can't fault him for creating a fairly awesome character who, as you said, does have desires and isn't judged by them. I think more of my squick comes from the contrivance that, despite her desires, she's been introduced all her life to the idea that SEX IS BAD, YOU WILL STEAL MEN'S SOULS!!!1!! And it takes her a while to move beyond that indoctrination. Plus, Goodkind's always going on about how many people want to rape her and that's somewhat o_0.
But, as the books find the loopholes, I hope the show does as well. ;D

Well that is good. As I've said, I haven't actually read much Goodkind, and what little I did read, I quickly decided wasn't really my thing. But I'm glad there's no judging there, and I do recognize that the confessor thing is a useful plot point to keep Richard and Kahlan apart to build the tension before, as you say, the big pay off. But useful plot or not, it's still a little tired that sex has to be the medium for Kahlan's problem. I keep expecting Joss to jump out of the writer's room or something, going "HA HA! SEX IS BAD!" ;D

Erm, Richard had his pants still on and, since they made pretty clear that they remembered everything (Richard remembering the magic and all) they would remember having sex and Richard not being confessed. They would be all: "OMG, WE HAD SEX AND NOTHING, BESIDES THE DANGEROUS AMOUNT OF HOTNESS, HAPPENED!" That's what I think anyway, I could be mistaken since I've watched the episode only 30 times xD Only the Richard&Kahlan hot moments, though. O=)

But I don't really take it seriously, which is maybe why I love it. I just watched the last episode with a friend of mine who doesn't really like shows like this, and we both spent the hour mocking it and laughing. But at the end I still LOOOOOOOOOOOVE it.

I'd just like to say that Amphortus (the original cockblocking wizard) was just a lame-o, stick-in-the-mud who didn't get that Kieran was obviously whipped before they had sex. So making Vivian kill herself didn't do much but piss him off--and rightly so, I think.
Oh, and I can guarantee Richard and Kahlan know EXACTLY what they did in the crypt. And they LOVE it.
