I saw Paul McCartney last night! For free too. ;) He was in Halifax playing his only Canadian show, and since the concert was in the Halifax Commons just two blocks from my place, we ended up just going down and standing right outside. We could see the video screens clearly and the music was so loud we didn't miss a thing. Highly, highly awesome. Sir Paul plays one awesome show for a 67 year old: dude has stage presence coming out the wazoo. And it's quite an experience to sing "Hey Jude" along with 60,000 other people while a live-in-the-flesh flipping Beatle is up on stage leading along. My mum has advised me to tell my future grandkids about it. ;)

And now, a few really-not-deep-or-thinky-at-all thoughts about Torchwood: Children of Earth )

It's odd. Either someone downstairs has been playing a lot of Torchwood lately, or the wind moving between the buildings here sounds remarkably like this.

The third option is of course that the Halifax rift is opening up again. In which case I'm glad I've worked out a Weevil escape plan. (/Zombie escape plan. Good for any monster attack really. Can't say I'm not well prepared!)

Notice that not one of these options is: Heather, you're crazy. *g*

Things that are making me excited:

I think Doctor Who is always a little more manageable after you've had a night to process. Yep. Feeling pretty good and optimistic now. And still revving for next saturday. ;)

Anywho, check out this lovely pic: Spoilers for Confidential - 4x12 & casting for 4x13 )

And randomly, have some proof that Eve Myles may be the cutest thing in the world )

Wow, my birthday's in two days! That's a bit crazy - though less stressful, somehow, than the big 20 last year. And of course, the fireworks are always a treat. ;D

There is not enough banana yoghurt in the world. Or at least there isn't at my grocery store. There's banana-strawberry, which is still good, but no just banana. They have no banana. I might cry.

Small spoiler for Torchwood 2x03 )

The roommate and I bought a tv yesterday, as our old one and its lack of ability to play DVDs (poor thing's older than I am) finally drove us to it. Thank goodness for university classifieds and people moving out of res wanting to offload their stuff ASAP. But, not only does our new tv play DVDs (yay), it ALSO gets us two more channels with the bunny ears for some reason. Before we could only get CTV (at least we could watch Pushing Daisies. When it was on. WOE) but now we get Global AND the CBC! THREE WHOLE CHANNELS! (That's only one less than we had with normal cable in NZ) I can watch the news! And hockey! And Rick Mercer! These are exciting times.

And tonight I'm going over to my friends' to watch the Superbowl. And while I love the company, I can't say football exactly tickles my fancy. So I'm bringing my knitting. You so know who's going to be the coolest cat at that party. Oh yeah. ;)

Happy New Year! I'm a little late on the uptake, but I seem to have been busy/disinclined to post in the last couple of days - squeezing the last few days of the holiday for their full enjoyment capacity (this involves a lot of sleeping-in and watching Bones DVDs with my Mum and sister), then flying back to Halifax tomorrow afternoon. AND THEN CLASSES START AFRESH ON MONDAY. NEW HISTORY COURSES. WITH BIG PAPERS. WOE. WHERE DID MY VACATION GO?

But I have had a pretty great last few days. I was up at my cottage over New Year's, visiting one of my best friend, who I hardly get to see anymore. And northern Ontario is beautiful at this time of the year. Snow everywhere. Snow, trees, lake. Beautiful. And then I got to revisit the ROM and while I have ISSUES with the new addition (it's ugly, doesn't look that well built, poor use of space, lighting is... weird) museums are my FAVOURITE things in the world. And I just kept telling myself that when I work there in the near to distant future (that's before I move on to run the British Museum, by the by) I will fix things. *nods*

Hmm... some other random assorted things:

Robin Hood spoilers )

And now I need some new BBC to fill in until Who starts! Maybe I'll have to give Torchwood another chance. Spike (and Martha!) will be there, so... We'll see.

BUT HO MAN, I MISS PUSHING DAISIES. Like a missing piece of my soul! Or something slightly less melodramatic. But really, how can they introduce Ned and Chuck into my life and then just take them away! NOT FAIR. PLEASE PAY THE WRITERS ALREADY. Though I did have the brilliant idea of having a PD party where everyone dons splendid dresses and heels á la Chuck (or Olive if that's more your bent) and bakes pies and eats the pies and goes out a-searching for Lee Pace. And then maybe we could drink something out of flutes to take the edge off our Strike pain. Best party ever?

That's about it for now, my lovely peoples. 2008 will have plenty more exciting things to post about, I'm sure. Though I might be writing history papers while it happens. ;)

Huh, seems like it's been awhile since I caught up with the beloved LJ world. One would think I'd suddenly developed a social life or something! Which actually, is half-true at any rate. We have had a few things going on here of late:
-Friday was Munro Day here at Dal, which means that a long time ago some guy gave a lot of money to the university to give us a day off, thus rendering him the most popular guy on campus! So we went out Thursday night and it was wild and raucous and fun.
-Then the better parts of Friday and Saturday were spent reading (Jane Eyre! First time I've been enjoying my Lit assignments in awhile), working on my résumé (eek, I need a summer job) and watching Bon Cop, Bad Cop (Colm Feore! And crazy Canadian cinematography!).
-And Sunday we hosted a SuperBowl party (no, I didn't really watch. I had my knitting. But I enjoyed the overall company. And the food - gah, we have SO many leftovers!)
So, whew! So many things to take me away from the beloved lj world and immerse me in the "real world". A bit of a shock to my system, but overall it was a really good weekend. ; )

But getting back to the world of fandom, my time was also occupied (of course) with the wild and crazy wonders of the BBC. I cannot stress this enough ([livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar back me up here): when the Beeb has got you in its tenacious grasp, it does not let go. Not for anything. I just finished watching the latest version of Jane Eyre for the second time around (hey, it's applicable to school!) and what with that pretty and all the others found on that glorious channel across the pond, I have decided to make a picspam to truly express the depth of my obsession love and appreciation.
