Just in case I ever forget where I am...

Watched the Jays kick ass on a beautiful sunny day at the skydome, DIDN'T get sunburned, had dinner out on a patio with great friends, capped it all off with delicious mango gelato. If this is post-apocalypse earth, I'll take it. :D

IF YOU ARE CANADIAN AND YOU HAVEN'T DONE SO ALREADY THEN TODAY'S THE DAY TO VOTE. WHATEVER THE RESULTS, THIS ELECTION WILL HAVE HISTORICAL VOTER TURNOUT, SHOWING OUR LEADERS THAT WE DO HAVE A VOICE, WE DO CARE, AND WE WILL MAKE OURSELVES HEARD. GIVEN THE NEWS IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW, THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO REALIZE HOW PRIVILEGED WE ARE TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY WHERE DEMOCRACY IS A RIGHT. EXERCISE IT. VOTE.

So slight sidebar first: I was catching up on Q on the CBC website (fellow Canuckticians! do you love Q too?? Sometimes I wonder why we even NEED other radio stations *huggles the CBC to me forever*) and there was a great interview with Adele that I was enjoying very much, and then a link to a studio performance she did of her song, Turning Tables. AND THEN I GOT A LOT OF FEELINGS.

Here's where the Fringe comes in )

In other news-y things: It is March which means I am a MONTH away from finishing my Masters. Um. AHHHHHHH. I am excited to come to the end of my sixth straight year of university, but I am possibly now even more terrified that the real world is catching up with me. o_0 DOES ANYONE WANT TO GIVE ME A JOB? PLEASE? I'M ACTUALLY A MATURE AND RESPONSIBLE WORKER I SWEAR.

WHAT A GAME!

And what games, man! It's going to be so weird to have no more Olympics to obsess over after tomorrow. A bit of a relief to be sure (back to our regularly scheduled programmes!) but I've had a really fun time watching the Olympics these last couple weeks. I've had the chance to watch with various family members, with friends, on my own, and with loads of twitter folk! (Which btw, sorry for the constant spamming. *g*) And I've enjoyed it all so much, thank you everyone!

*HUGS*

Now time for the closing ceremonies! Where mah popcorn? I can only hope we're going to get something as epic as the punk rock fiddlers again. ;DDDDDDDDD

(Oh, so apparently Yonge and Dundas has been completely shut down for an impromptu block party. AWESOME!)

This is mainly for the sister's benefit, but in the unlikely event that anyone else is wildly curious about the contents of my wardrobe:

NEW BOOTS!

Something about the combination of a sale, last pair in the store, and they just so happen to fit clearly makes me a rabid materialistic consumer. Yay! ;DDD

Also, [livejournal.com profile] janie_jones_ clued me into the AWESOME fact that Chuck airs on Sunday nights here this season instead of on Mondays. HECK YES, CANADA. But way to chip little bits of my heart away, show. *tears*

Without getting into spoilers, I see similarities between Chuck's storyline this season, and what John Crichton was going through in Farscape. (Hear me out) They both started as these bright, but very innocent guys, and through their journeys in space/spy life, they've had to toughen up and tarnish their souls a bit. And it's necessary to survive, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to watch it happen. *siiighs* OH CHUCK. &hearts &hearts &hearts

(And hey, also this applies to Richard! And um... this is a really common hero trope thing isn't it? Shh.)

The thing I love about grad school is that we get show and tell. No, seriously.

Today, our guest speaker was a man named Jowy Taylor, who has created a guitar made from 63 different pieces of Canadian heritage, from all across the country. His goal has (succesfully) been to take the guitar all across the country and the world, and expand the scope of symbols we identify as quintessentially Canadian. Check out the website for more info: http://www.sixstringnation.com/. It's so cool, it's got pieces of the Bluenose in it, of Pier 21 (yay!), Trudeau's canoe paddle, Louis Riel's schoolhouse, caribou bones, bagle racks from Montreal, a seat in Massey Hall, and tonnes more. And so many people have played it (or at least have held it) now as well; from Bruce Cockburn, to Stompin' Tom, to Feist, to Hawksley Workman, politicians from all parties (though apparently Gilles Duceppe wouldn't go near it *g*) and ordinary people all around. I played G - A - D very quickly before passing it off to the next person. ;) But there you go, our piece of cultural history for the day.

And in more show and tell news, my homework for Friday's Collections Management class is to photograph 12 objects I would put in a museum of myself. Show and tell! You just ignore the four hours of reading time I clocked in at the library today, and it's just like kindergarten!

These prompts stories will probably trickle in as I write them, in no particular order. This story is probably on the long side of what I'll write, but let's just say I was particularly inspired. Caffeine had nothing to do with it. Seriously.

Title: Beware Canadians Bearing Gifts
Rating: G
Spoilers/Timeline: Up to Season 4, but fairly general.
Disclaimer: Not mine! Not even Neil Patrick Harris. :(
Author's Note: For [livejournal.com profile] lily_268, who prompted me with Robin and "Something with Canadian references or maybe the Stanley Cup or maybe her branching out into new things to get a new job but still being boob-tastic and sassy." Well, this is ostensibly about Robin, but mainly about how obnoxiously Canadian I can get. Again. Special mention to [livejournal.com profile] xtinethepirate who, from last Tuesday to today, managed to watch the entire How I Met Your Mother series. *needs-to-get-a-life-five* ;D

It’s not more Robin Sparkles music videos, is it? )

Woe is me, for I am bored.

I don't have another exam until thursday, which I know really shouldn't be something to complain about, but I have NOTHING TO DO in the meantime except refresh my friends page over and over (I mean, I suppose I could study but...) and it's only 9:00 and blerg.

So. Sentence meme? You gimme a prompt and I'll write you a little story in the comments? Or (stealing from [livejournal.com profile] anythingbutgrey) ask me anything about any fandom I've participated in, and I'll give you an answer.

Please to play with me? Otherwise I'm just going to be moping around my computer until tomorrow. And then I'm going to go see The Golden Compass with [livejournal.com profile] xtinethepirate. That'll be fun.
