hjea: (pd-chuck and the red dress)
You know it's been months since I've posted about Pushing Daisies, and that is a depressing thought. I'm pleased as punch that some of my favourite shows, like The Office and Battlestar and Doctor Who, are all coming back within the next month, but there's not going to be any new NED and CHUCK and OLIVE and EMERSON and DIGBYYYYYYYYY! until next fall, and it's just a hard wait.

SO WATCH THIS INTERVIEW WITH ANNA FRIEL AND LEE EFFING PACE. It'll make you feel better. ;D

ANNA: "I first of all loved the fact that my character was called Chuuook [I'm trying to approximate her awesome Northern accent, bear with me]. I was like: 'I wanna play a girl called Chuuook!' It doesn't sound quite as good in
American with the whole Chuck [she switches to her American accent here and even does a tiny ditzy hair flip... 'cause she's awesome]. I like my 'uuoo'."
LEE EFFING PACE: "Heh heh heh!"

ANNA: "We've got adjoining trailers so we'll get the scripts at the same time - actually the hair and make-up people get them first-"
L.E.P.: "-And we steal them."

ANNA: "It's driven very strongly by a love story, of a romance of two people who just long to be together... [she looks into the camera] and long to be able to have sex but they never will be able to!! [looks at L.E.P.] ...Together."

L.E.P.: "Kristin Chenoweth plays the waitress at the Piehole"
ANNA: "She's wonderful."
L.E.P.: "She's wonderful, a great schemey, fun character-"
ANNA: "And she's got great breasts!"

So yeah... it's a pretty fun interview. ;) And they both look gorgeous, even if I think facial hair is not such a good look on Lee effing Pace, but that may be because I'm horribly biased towards Ned and his fluffy hair, and kicked puppy faces and heart-melting smiles and... *ahem*.

This of course then inspired me to skedaddle over to Youtube to watch a whole slew of my favourite PD-moments, like our first emotional heimlich scene, and the cellophane, and "What do you need to be happy?" (which, how it manages to shake utter!cheesy and become absolutely perfect, I'll never know, but I'm glad it does) and a certain heart-breaking scene from the last episode at Christmas (*sniff*) that I apparently don't have the self-control not to transcribe.

But I will perform a small mercy and put it behind a cut )

I have done two and three quarters of the five essays I have due by the fourth. I really need a fast-forward button. Or someone to give me an emotional heimlich. I think I'll go get one now.

...Or, A Procrastinators Love of Tea:

1) Make a pot of tea. (My current favourite combo is to add one bag of raspberry tea to my standard Earl Grey)
2) Pour one cup and mull over what you have to get done, sipping in a studious manner.
3) Bring pot of tea into the room with you, refilling your cup as necessary as you do your work.
4) When the pot is empty, it's time to take a break and make a new pot of tea.
5) Repeat until either your work is done, you feel like you've done enough to justify making a cracky LJ post, or you desperately need a pee.

(Side effects may include tremors, rapid breathing, the crazy eyes and a slight tendency to babble on like the Tenth Doctor, saying such things as "Superheated infusion of free radicals and tannin!" or "Pip, pip, cheerio -- eh, what!!!")

I'm hopping on board the shipper poll train! )
hjea: (bsg-run helo run)
Things I managed to do today:
  • Set my lunch on fire
  • Impressed myself by not panicking, but instead very calmly grabbing some baking soda, doused said FLAMES, and opened windows to prevent fire alarm craziness
  • Succesfully did not set lunch v. 2.0 alight
Still, I don't think a career in fire prevention and/or fighting would be a good path for me.

Battlestar has been on the mind a lot lately, what with the fourth season starting next month AFTER A YEAR. Doctor Who airing in April is also very exciting (except, um, WHEN EXACTLY, BBC??) but at least it hasn't been a year since an OMG!WTF!CRAZY finale. (Yes, I know I'm harping. Hush.) Anyway, I've managed to get one of my friends watching the show (and in a totally unexpected result, got one of her friends hooked to the point that she watched the entire series during reading week) and then I've since watched most of the series again while doing such exiting things as knitting and avoiding homework. Getting to bring up Cylons every time my Sci-Fi prof mentions our technology taking us over is another fun result. So, nothing too much has come of it - I just wanted to reaffirm to anyone in doubt that I am indeed a huge nerd. *G*

Ooh - I did read this REALLY nice interview with Tahmoh Penikett (he was being so sweet! And had great answers! And was like, "wait a minute, I'm driving around Vancouver and I need to get some gas, but keep talking!") which has really re-established my !!!HELO!!! love. I LOVE Helo. Prompting me to run about lj in a frenzy, trying to track down good Helo icons (dudes. I found freaking Boxy icons before I found Helo. WTF?), and flailing about the awesomeness of Agathons in general. I'm now kind of irrationally terrified that they're going to do something to him in this last season and if so -- I am going to carry on (á la Marian), let me tell you. Though I suppose as long as my Pilots are fine, I'll be okay. Eventually. (Still - I'm watching you, RDM, so step away from Helo)

Alright, so much for obsessing. I have five essays all due in the next two weeks and I'm declaring myself, starting tomorrow, officially in work mode. (I'm hoping by declaring it in public I'll shame myself into actually doing it) Still, please taunt me mercilessly if you catch me doing otherwise. I might cry, but it will be worth it.
hjea: (misc-it's not conceited right?)
HA! My mum just linked me to this article in today's Globe and Mail. While nothing new, it's good to know that the uselessness of my future degree is still a hot topic. Best part? The ideal job posting:

"Wanted: a well-read deep thinker with working knowledge of the Cultural Revolution and the Romantic poets. Must be able to identify themes, put literary works into historical context and deconstruct allegorical novels. Ability to formulate theories about past events that have little or no impact on modern life also an asset."

So as I told my mum: best get ready for my Romantic Poetry class. And yes, that's really where I'm going. ;)
hjea: (the office-parking lot)
Oy gevalt. The first week back at classes should not be so stressful. I'm sure there's a rule somewhere. BUT, essay numero uno is now finito'd (pending me going for an edit at the Writing Centre, which is really a super sekrit excuse for [livejournal.com profile] xtinethepirate and me to hang out - because CLEARLY we don't see each other enough) and now I feel free to geek my little geeky heart out.

First things first, I FINALLY saw Juno this saturday, after being pestered by family and friends alike, and indeed, as everyone says, it REALLY WAS THAT GOOD. Besides which, I wanted to see it ever since I saw the trailer in November, but could never quite sort out the time (nor funds) but now I have seen it and anyway, WIN WIN WIN. WIN. Cheese to my macaroni indeed )

It's amazing the kind of things I'll get up to to waste time and procrastinate. Missing TV because of el strike-o (I'm not sure what's up with the fake Spanish in this post. Just go with it) not being one of them, but being hit by such strong Jim/Pam missage of all a sudden (The Office! It's been so looooooong!), that I needed to seek out every baby!fic ever written about them (Oh, More Than That, how useful you are). Or in an amazing bout of self-indulgence, skimming through the crossover, Lending a Hand, that [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar and I wrote last year, trying to remember which bits Frances wrote, and which bits I did. General rule of thumb I found was that if it's awesome and Doctor-babbly then it's Frances, adjectivey and wordy = me. :) Old fic is fun. And at the low end of the scale, there's "lets watch my slippers dance in the mirror for half an hour while I actively avoid thinking about Sci-fi essays". It's a wonder I ever buckle down and actually get any school work done.

Anywho, me gusta the ficage, so would anyone be interested in ye olde drabble meme? Put a prompt in the comments and I'll write you a short story below. Basically any fandom you've seen me talk about is fair play, though be warned, Robin Hood prompts are likely to get FERVENT!DENIAL LAND treatment. I'm fairly certain the finale was just bad teenage angsty character death fic gone wrong, anyway. REAL canonical Robin Hood wouldn't kill off its leads.

YAY, DRABBLES.
hjea: (dw-wibbly wobbly)
Happy New Year! I'm a little late on the uptake, but I seem to have been busy/disinclined to post in the last couple of days - squeezing the last few days of the holiday for their full enjoyment capacity (this involves a lot of sleeping-in and watching Bones DVDs with my Mum and sister), then flying back to Halifax tomorrow afternoon. AND THEN CLASSES START AFRESH ON MONDAY. NEW HISTORY COURSES. WITH BIG PAPERS. WOE. WHERE DID MY VACATION GO?

But I have had a pretty great last few days. I was up at my cottage over New Year's, visiting one of my best friend, who I hardly get to see anymore. And northern Ontario is beautiful at this time of the year. Snow everywhere. Snow, trees, lake. Beautiful. And then I got to revisit the ROM and while I have ISSUES with the new addition (it's ugly, doesn't look that well built, poor use of space, lighting is... weird) museums are my FAVOURITE things in the world. And I just kept telling myself that when I work there in the near to distant future (that's before I move on to run the British Museum, by the by) I will fix things. *nods*

Hmm... some other random assorted things:

Robin Hood spoilers )

And now I need some new BBC to fill in until Who starts! Maybe I'll have to give Torchwood another chance. Spike (and Martha!) will be there, so... We'll see.

BUT HO MAN, I MISS PUSHING DAISIES. Like a missing piece of my soul! Or something slightly less melodramatic. But really, how can they introduce Ned and Chuck into my life and then just take them away! NOT FAIR. PLEASE PAY THE WRITERS ALREADY. Though I did have the brilliant idea of having a PD party where everyone dons splendid dresses and heels á la Chuck (or Olive if that's more your bent) and bakes pies and eats the pies and goes out a-searching for Lee Pace. And then maybe we could drink something out of flutes to take the edge off our Strike pain. Best party ever?

That's about it for now, my lovely peoples. 2008 will have plenty more exciting things to post about, I'm sure. Though I might be writing history papers while it happens. ;)
hjea: (PD-dandylion!five)
I just finished my last exam! HEE HEE HEE HEE, take that, fall term! *runs around in circles*

Also, it is freezing here (well, -11, but that's cold for Halifax!) and thanks to all the rain we had yesterday, the sidewalks were doing their best impression of a skating rink. Was very concerned with getting to my exam without falling and breaking anything. But on the way back I could care less, and I had Tim's, and I sliiiiiid for joy! Whoa hoo!

Still on a tv!high from last night's Pushing Daisies episode. Might be on my way to a panic attack with no Ned (he's so HAWT!) to look forward to, though. Support Group! I need you to keep my sanity intact!
hjea: (PD-Chuck and the red dress)
So I've decided that my Literary Criticism class is the most boring class in the world (and is thus, my one requirement for the term) and my time is better spent in it fantasizing about David Tennant and writing Pushing Daisies drabbles. I mean, I paid attention for some of the lecture! Well, a little of it. Okay, my ears perked up when the prof used Pride and Prejudice as an example. Otherwise I was doing my own thing.

Accomplishment the first: My homage to [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar's awesomely hilarious post about what she would say if she and David Tennant were in an elevator together. I present: What I would do if David Tennant approached me at what I imagine to be the CBC studios near here, 'cause you know, CBC helps sponser Doctor Who, and so I'm sure DT would have a perfectly legitimate reason for being in a CBC building one day. In Halifax. Hem. )

Yep. That's probably about what would happen. *nods*

And accomplishment the second: A new Pushing Daisies drabble! Chuck POV. Whee! A somewhat similar theme to the last one I wrote. Here. )

And that's what a undergrad Arts degree is for, thank you very much. Besides, there's no new Pushing Daises tonight, so what else am I supposed to do? ;)
hjea: (PD-I love in-charge Ned!)
I could have gone to LitCrit this morning, but insead of listening to my THIRD lecture THIS TERM on A Vindication of the Rights of Women (Mary Wollstonecraft, I love you, but when you come up in almost ALL my courses, well then...) I stayed home and made Ned!icons instead.

I'm pretty sure Ned's popped-up collar jacket was the sexiest thing that's been on my TV in awhile, so to commemorate the awesomeness that it was, I made 26 (yep, 26!) icons of said collar and of Ned in it. These are the ways to be a happy fangirl.

Ned, Ned, Ned, NED! )

New episode of The Office tonight, directed by the master, Joss Whedon! Who has a new show coming out! WHEE!!!!!!!! (Please don't cancel it, FOX)
hjea: (firefly-mal/inara dancing)
Since this fits in very well with my 'I've been watching too much TV' theme, I stole'd this meme from [livejournal.com profile] threerings and proceeded to get much enjoyment out of it:

- Bold all of the following TV shows of which you've seen 3 or more episodes.
- Italicize a show if you're positive you've seen every episode.
- Asterisk if you have at least one full season on tape or DVD
- If you want, add up to 3 additional shows (keep the list in alphabetical order).

El very long list-o )

(And I finished by effing-stupid-annoying-GRR!worthy Aristotle essay! Ha ha, take that you stupid Greek philosopher! ...*hides from the Classicists*)
hjea: (dw-scottish tardis)
If I claim that I've been travelling (nay, hurtling) through the vortex of time/space, will that get me extra points for my many long and unexplained absences? It will? Sweet. Then yeah, I've totally been hurtling through time and space and it was SOOOO awesome, I just didn't have the time to lj about it.

...

So clearly, I'm getting close to insanity, and clearly that really didn't happen. Let me break down the reality of my last two weeks or so: Cut for excessive wordiness )

And that's about it. In random news, I have of late been hit with a kind of ferved, though I'm sure temporary, obsession with CSI of all things. I know, right? There's not a bit of sci-fi/fantasy content to be seen, but I'm fascinated. I blame the fact that channel 14 shows about five episodes in a row every evening. And the fact that there's a super sekrit romance between two of the characters that no one else knows about. Because you know I could care less about the actual crime stuff.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Care to share any stories about obsessions (however temporary) with things that you wouldn't think would fall even close to your realm of interests?

Mmm... lunch time.
hjea: (dw-wibbly wobbly)
I feel like today was a computer-y kind of day. Well, I guess most days are kind of computer-y in this day and age (especially if, er... you spend a lot of time on lj), but today was especially so. Firstly, I was playing around with my layout this morning, and I think I finally got it where I want it. I've been wanting a change for awhile - loved my header and my colour sceme, but the borders and sidebars and lack of visible tags were starting to bug me. And finally (after much searching and subsequent CSS tweaking: [find and replace, find and replace, find and replace]) I have this! And I'm quite happy with it. *pets* I also found a mood theme that I like, with both Nine and Ten Doctor Whos (and Rose - duh). Yay!

*hugs lj*

Also today was class registration! How fun! That is, if you like fiddling around with the Dal Online Registration website for hours, just TRYING to choose the classes you want. Harumph! But -- finally got my fall classes and even most of the winter ones sorted out. Looks good! English with Modern Criticism and The Romantics and Shakespeare, and History with the Rise of Rome. Even taking a Classical Mythology class as an elective. Whee!!!
(Yes, total nerd, I know.)

AND yesterday I got my new printer! It's very pretty - a Canon PiXMA MP160. Look!

And it even prints really good quality photos! Like this:

So, it hasn't gotten much use yet, but I'm sure it will once the school year begins.

Ooh - made a few Blink icons the other day. Still probably my favourite episode of the season - just so fantastically written and acted and the pacing is FABULOUS and, sure the Doctor isn't in it much - but he does manage to come up with "timey-wimey" in a few short minutes so it's totally worth it - and I love Sparrow and Nightingale and GUH! Still, I'm REALLY looking forward to the next ep. Because - DID YOU SEE HOW THE SOUND OF DRUMS ENDED! But on to the icons. ;)

Learned to stay away from hens, though. It's not pretty when they blow. )

So, that took up most of my day, and then I went to work! Ooh - and bought tickets to the Fire works boat cruise we're doing on Canada Day. Exciting - I did a lot today, didn't I? ;) Still haven't gone grocery shopping though, and I just ate my last box of Kraft Dinner, so you know it's getting desperate. Guess I'll just have to keep up this productive streak a bit longer.
hjea: (Default)
...OVER!!!

I'm done! *twirls*
hjea: (farscape-dreamer Chiana)
SUNLIGHT!!!! AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

*flails*
*bounces*
*twirls in circles*

Sorry, but it's been a looooong dark, cold and wet week. (And winter come to that.)

AND I finished my fourth exam this morning! My last one's on monday, and then I'm going home! Don't know quite when I'm coming back as I still don't have a job (anyone know anyone hiring in Halifax?) but I'm still looking forward to the break. It's supposed to be 23° in Toronto on Monday. 23°!!!!! More flailing won't even begin to cover my excitement! I could wear sandals!!!!!!!!

Pasty-pale redheaded me is going to burn like nobody's business. I can't wait. :D
hjea: (robin hood-robin/marian forest!OTP)
I had my third exam (out of five) this morning in the arena. And it was freezing. What I learned: writing an exam in a freezing cold hockey rink is not so much conducive to smart thoughts. I would rather have skated. But at least it's over! Haha - take that Literary Landmarks! Not to sound overly dramaztic or anything, but worst class ever! Taking a whirlwind tour through Western Literature from Chaucer to Salman Rushdie and more is not as much fun as you might think. Especially when you have to read and discuss something like T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land" in only ONE CLASS and then are expected to come up with something Deep and Insightful to say about it in the exam. Oy. But still, not actually that bad an exam, and it is over! Goodbye notes!

And now I should really go food shopping, but it's too cold (TOO GAWD DAMN COLD! IN APRIL!) and I don't wanna. I REALLY should though, my food situation is getting desperate. In fact, in my possession there is only:

-half a box of cheerios
-one can of tomato soup
-one can of tuna
-a piece of chicken that's been in my freezer since Christmas
-some frozen vegetables
-and lots of tea bags and various assorted condiments that put together make nothing even close to resembling a meal.

Uh... I will go. Soon(ish). *grabs the tomato soup*

Anyway, in more cheery news, I'm finally d-loading the new Who ep. I only waited this long because I didn't want to let myself watch it (or even contemplate the ide of watching it) before my exam. But now, without another exam until friday, I plan to enjoy it throughily! And yes, I have heard one or two things about the Doctor and a kitten, and yes, I think it sounds heart-breakingly adorable, but I Don't Want to Know Anything! *blindfolds herself as she explores the flist* There, that should do it. ;)

And finally, I really miss Robin Hood! I know, it's weird, but... I just want more of my cheesy historical BBC crack! *wails* There needs to be more fic and discussions and snuggly-wuggly Robin/Marian OTPness. Hmm... I think I may have to write some of that myself though. Oh well, I guess there's worse wastes of time. *g* Those of you who haven't seen the BBC's new version of Robin Hood, um... save yourselves? No, it's awesome - just so damn cheesy and yet wholly addicting at the same time. And I want more!!!!!!

*goes a-searching*

Dude, there's got to be some Robin/Marian fluff somewhere.
hjea: (buffy-scooby friendship)
I finally picked up the Buffy comic today and what fun it was! Though far too short - now I need to find out what's going to happen!

Though I must say, some of the 'accents' written for the other slayers made me snort at the cheese. *g*

Hokay, now I've got to finish that Lancelot and Guenivere reading. I hear it ends well! ;)

*hugs her comic*

I missed you, Buffy!
hjea: (firefly-inara not tea)
Four papers down, only two more to go! And I got an A on one of them! Muah ha ha - take that school!

*blinks*

*emerges from essay hole*

So, what's been going on, fandom?

Lending a Hand chapter seven update on [livejournal.com profile] teawiles! Please, please read and review. Goldy and I will offer chocolate, tea or coffee and various other shiny, sparkly things as incentive.

*dances the dance of crazy crossover fun*
hjea: (buffy-scooby friendship)
My Literary Landmarks class, which is normally not my favourite of classes, had a guest lecturer this morning. And he was a good speaker, very funny, talked about Oscar Wilde and it was generally a good time. Anywho, he was mentioning Wilde's social structuralist tendencies, which in his words means that we formed by whatever tv show we last watched. So I thought: Hee, that's kinda true. Most of my formative adolescent years were Buffy. And then he immediately followed that up with "In other words, we're all structured by Buffy."

CLASS: Ha!
ME: *jawdrop*

So not only is he AWESOME, he's also psychic! And I'm officially in love and will take all classes taught by him in the future. *nods* According to my friend, he also has a Blue Sun shirt! SQUEE!

And now I have Arthur studying to do and more Bones eps to watch. Oh university, how I do love you today.

OH, and Fic Rec! I'm normally not a big slash fan (for I am [livejournal.com profile] hjea, defender of all things canon!) but this: Jim and Ted from How I met Your Mother get married and have babies and it was the Best Thing Ever. For serious. It helps if you've seen HIMYM (which I highly recommend) but I don't think it's completely neccessary. Just... enjoy the awesome.
